If you know me, then you would know that I love trying out new palettes that are available on the market from mostly all brands. Recently, I came across the Smashbox #Shapematters Palette and was quite impressed with the assortment of products amalgamated in one. I have never tried Smashbox and thought it was a good opportunity to experience how the brand performs.
First of, the palette has a wax which is covered by a lid to set the eyebrows and two brow colors. They are taupe and soft brown.
Then we have one contour color which I believe is a great shade, but it might be a bit light for darker skin tones. Next there is a bronzer, which is a tan color, not orangey by any means; one highlight shade which is a pearlescent gold, and lastly a glow shade which would be absolutely beautiful for strobing.
Moving on, the palette has nine eyeshadow shades, a variety of colors from basic brown toned colors to contour the eye crease and darker ones to define your eyes.
The shades are:
1st row:
2nd row:
3rd row:
Vanilla: soft creamy color
Totally Nude: peach nude
Champagne: light gold
Stripped: light brown
Posh: Mauvy-pink
Platium: silver moonlight color
Sumatra: dark brown
Aubergine: darkened plum
Blackout: deep black
The palette also comes with a double sided brush. One side is a flat shader brush and the other an angled brush for defining the brows. It is most definitely a good quality brush and nothing less than MAC brushes in my humble opinion.
Overall, I would say the palette gives you bang for your buck, but the down side is that it tends to be a bit powdery. I do like all the shades for contour, bronzer, highlight/glow, eyeshadows, and brow - can see myself using it. It does have fallout when I use the eyeshadows and have to tap off the excess.
I would suggest to do your eye makeup first and then move on to the face. It would be easier to clean the fallout and then you can perfect your base/foundation. Another easy trick would be to dust translucent powder under your eye area and then sweep away any fallout with a powder brush, easy as that!
Since the holidays are just around the corner, this would be an excellent gift to give that makeup freak in your life. I am sure they would love it! It's an all-in-one and great for traveling too!!
To dark smokey eyes and chiseled and glistening cheekbones!
